The Sunshine Crew

The Sunshine Crew was a Crew of 12, Suzzy, Frodo, Tex, and 9 others who sadly I cannot remember all the names and hope that this website will find them so I can give them their due! The Sporto spawned two crews that went on to build a reputation that made Phil proud. The Sunshine Crew and the Love Crew. This page is dedicated to the crazy, quirky, fun as hell Sunshine Crew.  I am not sure who came up with the idea but the candy cane sun glasses we wore definitely were a hit, we had to buy more and give them out! We worked the Spring/Summer of 1989 traveling up and down the East coast filling in where steel expertise was needed. We showed the East Coast what the South Florida crew was all about. We were notorious for our hard work, hard negotiating skills and playing hard. At the RFK Stadium we took over lighting because the LD was AWOL. Since we had worked Bobby Brown earlier in two other venues we were given the job of LD and as a result our guys manned all the spots.

In September 1989 Hurricane Hugo hit the lower east coast. The local crew would not drop the stage. Our 12 man crew hit the steel and dropped it in record time, leaving the local crew to pick up the steel and stack it and rack it as we literally threw it to the ground. We dropped the entire stage, parked our vehicles beneath the covered walkways of the stadium, showered in the team locker room and slept thru the entire hurricane.  When we came out we proceeded to our next gig.

The guys I worked with were phenomenal and our rep grew as we worked each gig. 1989 was probably the best summer for just pure work and fun on steel.

In between gigs we took time to go to Canada, Niagara falls and camp out in the Adirondacks.  Life was good!
